about

In Baltimore, I found myself needing public transportation to my guitar teacher's, Ray Chester, home.

So, I rode the bus!

Well, the ride was both amusing and scary. I distinctly remember thinking that we were going to collide with a car at one point, but no worries. The bus felt like a giant among the mechanical ants around us.

Some passengers seemed lost in thought until they realized their stop had gone by. Then suddenly pulling the bell in a hurried afterthought.

Oh well. I got a song out of it.

Written August 7, 1986

lyrics

Spoken:
(Irritated citizen) "Pounding the pavement's for the birds!"
(Concerned citizen) "Hey now, friend, have you heard?"
(Irritated citizen) "But I can't afford no Uber fare."
(Concerned citizen) "Just ride the bus. It'll get you there."

Crawling through the urban landscape
Like a dinosaur without a brain.
Well, this big ol' giant will find its way.
You'll get where you're going, but you might be late.

Here comes a car up on our right side.
Hold on to the hooks 'cause just might collide.
But don't push the bell as the stop goes by!
Before I get off, I just might die.

Experience the wheel...

Ride the bus!
